Summer Vibes
The heat and season has me feeling these bright yellow and blue color schemes and beachy motifs. Each of these pieces were created separately with very different inspirations, but I love the way they fit together anyway!
GMYEINS
Based on a song that has been playing on repeat in my head for months, “Give me your eyes, I need Sunshine” illustrates the lyrics of Wolf Parade’s “Believe in Anything.” I discovered the song when it was used in a recent book to tv show adaption back in January and I have been singing this song/imagining different visual interpretations of it ever since! I wanted to give a nod to the book series with the layers of painted book pages in the far background and show an inner light radiating out from the female figure with the cut out eye sockets.
(Not a) Lemon Shark
It began with a pun, and the visual would not leave my brain until I made steps to create it. My background is in illustration and visual puns, so I really felt like I was going back to my roots with this concept.
Even though I accidentally used reference photos of a blacktip shark instead of a lemon shark, I think the idea still reads & hope you won’t fault me too much for my lack of marine biology knowledge :)
Dualing
This piece was actually originally a sidewalk chalk design I drew for my college’s annual sidewalk chalk festival this past spring. My husband & I are both alumni & we participate every year. We never plan our design until the night before (or this year the morning of 😬) the contest! This year I loved our design so much I couldn’t let it get washed away forever, I had to recreate it as a shadow box!
